In the United States alone there are about 40 million in plastic produces. Most of the plastic ends up in the landfill. Why not help reduce the amount that’s going into the landfills by recycling the plastic?
The first thing you need to do is to find a local recycling facility that takes plastic. You can look in your local phone book and you can do a search on the web. You may even have a curbside pick up for recycling plastics. When you find the recycling place you want to use, call them to find out what type of plastic bottles they take. There is a number with a triangle on the bottom of the bottle, this number tells you by what process the bottle is recycled. The triangle tells you that it is recyclable.
When saving your plastic bottles remove the caps and labels. The caps and labels can not be recycled. You can throw them in the regular waste. There are also some programs for schools that can be found where you can save and send the plastic caps and the schools can get park benches and other things.
Before storing your plastic bottles rise them out. Run a little water in to the container and swish it around pour it out and do it again. This will get the rest of the fluid that was in there out and will reduce the smell and insects while in storage or until you can take the plastic to the recycling facility or when its picked up curbside.
Always follow the rules of your community on how to handle your plastic bottles. Now days in most cities they have curbside pick ups for plastics. If you are in a town that does not provide a curbside service take it to the local recycling facility that takes plastic.
